Assessments
Cognitive Assessment
A cognitive assessment for a child is a test or series of tests designed to measure a child's intellectual abilities, thinking skills, problem-solving, memory, and processing speed. These assessments help parents, educators, and healthcare professionals understand a child's strengths and challenges in areas like learning, attention, and reasoning.
Why is a Cognitive Assessment Used?
- To identify learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia)
- To assess giftedness
- To evaluate developmental delays
- To understand a child's cognitive strengths and weaknesses
- To inform educational planning and interventions

The Assessment Process
Part 1
Gathering of information from parent/primary caregiver and the school where appropriate to obtain developmental history and current functioning
Part 2
In-person cognitive testing of the child/adolescent (this usually takes around 1.5 hours).
Part 3
Feedback session with the parents to discuss results and recommendations. A report is then prepared and delivered.
Cost of this assessment type: €850
All reports for all assessments are recognised by the HSE and Dept. of Education. As with all services, you may be entitled to claim money back from your health insurance on this service.
Book NowNeurodevelopmental Assessment -
Autism and ADHD Multidisciplinary/ Psychology assessment.
Our Neurodevelopmental assessments are holistic in nature. We don't zone into looking at just one area and instead focus on the full strengths and differences of the child. For this reason, during our neurodevelopmental assessment we are assessing for emotional and behavioural development, cognitive functioning, as well as completing assessment for autism and ADHD. These conditions can often co occur and in the clinic we don't believe in parents having to complete two separate assessments to fully understand their profile.
Our assessments include a structured in person evaluation that allows us to assess:
1. Cognitive functioning
2. Emotional and behavioural needs
3. Autism-At the clinic we use the assessment tool - The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) – A play-based evaluation that observes social and communication behaviors.
4. Assessment for ADHD using a range of standardised forms and in person evaluation and discussion.
The assessment is conducted by the psychologist or by the psychologist and observed by an occupational therapist or speech and language therapist if you choose the Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) option.
We require all children under the age of 5 to complete the MDT assessment, older children may not require the MDT option, especially if they have previously received support from occupational therapists or speech therapists.
